John Thompson AIA specializes in the design of custom single-family and multifamily residences in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, John spent his childhood in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He grew up in Bethesda, MD and graduated from Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, VA, where he was the Battalion Commander for the Class of 1989. John received his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech in 1994, where he spent a semester abroad with the Europe Design Studio in Riva San Vitale, Switzerland and was the recipient of the Professional Promise Award.

Starting his career in New Jersey and Philadelphia, John relocated to San Francisco in 1998, where he has worked at leading architectural firms including David Baker Architects, Pyatok and BAR prior to establishing his own practice. John was a two-term Design Review Board member in El Cerrito, CA, where he lives with his wife and two sons. He is a licensed Architect in California, Florida and Maryland.
